Great Food, Greater Cause

Share Our Strength is a movement that is building awareness of the childhood hunger crisis, right here in our country.  In the land of plenty, 1 in 5 kids face hunger, they don’t know where their next meal is coming from.  This organization is spreading the word  through corporate sponsorships, culinary events, healthy meal training, and summer meal tours.

I watched the documentary called “Hunger Hits Home” that showed parents, children, teachers and others on the frontline of this battle.  The goal is to end childhood hunger by 2015.  It was truly an eye opener.

These days, a steady job no longer guarantees a full cupboard, and the ongoing economic downturn has more of our friends, neighbors and co-workers struggling to put food on the table. As a result, more than 16 million children in the U.S. live under the toxic shadow of hunger.

On September 16, 2012 this campaign is coming to the Philadelphia area.  Its called the Dine Out For No Kid Hungry Week, over 75 restaurants will raise funds while satisfying your taste buds, for a worthy cause.  If you don’t want to dine out, there are other ways you can lend your support.  This is the perfect time to encourage your friends and family to take a pledge against childhood hunger.

You can add your voice and help protect children by taking the online pledge today, and show how this small act can make a big difference.

The Arts and My Community

With so many proposed cuts for the Arts in our communities, this opportunity could not have come at a better time.

Maxwell House Drops of Good and Rebuilding Together of Philadelphia, have a chance to join forces and receive money for an organization called The Community Education Center, right here in my home town.

CEC brings the community and the Arts together by providing music, dance and theater, of different cultures, all in one place.

It has served as a hub for grassroots entertainment training since 1970.  They also provide traveling performances for schools, churches and non-profit organizations.

Now CEC has a chance to win a sizeable grant just by us clicking the mouse on their Maxwell House page and voting. This is a simple way for you to make a difference by contributing to the arts in Philadelphia.  Just take a few seconds and cast your vote for a worthy cause.
