Birthdays Can Change the World

timeline1Today is my birthday, we all have that special day to celebrate in so many different ways.  Some of us love the attention, while others look at it as just another day.  No matter how you feel about this milestone, you can use it to change the world.

I read about a boy and an organization called Charity Water, where millions of people in developing countries walk nearly two hours a day to collect water.  The families take the risk of the water not being clean, bringing it home only to choose between drinking, bathing, cooking or washing.  Some of the water made people sick, and it still was not enough to go around.  So the boy decided to help by giving up his birthday gifts in exchange for family and friends donating to help build clean water projects.

This simple act of kindness has already raised millions of dollars to give clean water. This year, I decided to donate my birthday. Take some time and check out Charity Water, they might inspire you to do the same.

Embracing the Spirit of Giving,

Search With Heart

Goodsearch is a great way to raise money for your favorite cause with simple everyday actions like web search, dining, shopping, playing games and more.  Since 2006, users have donated millions of dollars to numerous charitable organizations through a unique platform.  So many people are joining this movement to truly make a difference.

The cause that I support is The Mural Arts Program of Phila.  They give you a personal page to share with friends and family, so they can take part or start their own page.

Take some to click my goodsearch link, take a look around, search a few terms to help my cause or start one of your own.

Embracing the Spirit of Giving,

Spread the Red

The American Heart Association and Macy’s have teamed up to support the the fight against heart disease.  This February marks the 10th year of the “Go Red for Women“movement.  Despite a lot of progress, there’s still a long way to go because heart disease continues to be the No. 1 killer of women, taking more lives than all kinds of cancer combined.  I’m living with a survivor of three major heart attacks who decided to get educated by living healthier, learning the risks and sharing her story to help her children…thanks Mom.

This year we celebrated the movement with a day of shopping at Macy’s in red, which helped to raise awareness of heart disease.  The strength of mothers, sisters, daughters and friends, fighting side by side is more powerful than any killer. It’s time to shout louder, stand stronger and demand change.  We will continue to spread the red.
